Today, there was a guest priest from Cameroon who gave a talk on what’s going on his home country. Lots of poverty, lack of clean water, hardly any food, dearth of education, etc. No offense to anyone, but I’m sure most of the people have heard the pitch many times. What got me was HOW he was trying to sell it:

We reach out to fellow Catholic brothers and sisters like you. We want you to know that if you don’t help, the Muslims will and people will convert to Islam.

Yeap. That’s what he said.

Now, I don’t know what he was implying.. but I do remember from my high school English class, that you use contrasts to make a point.

Yeap, his god and my God are not same. His god is tiny. Mine is HUGE, including his patience, love, and yes, tolerance.

PS: In case you haven’t found out… Qur’an (Muslim bible) is the Old Testament. They believe in pretty much the same crap as Christians do.

PPS: Gotta admit though.. fear tactics work pretty well because I noticed more people gave during second collection (which was for Cameroon).

Tonite is one of those nights where I feel a bit confused. It was a great fun weekend yet I feel a bit of dissatisfaction. Maybe it’s b/c I am getting used to people that hate their jobs and look forward to weekends as the only way to feel alive, the only way to feel the self from the daily drudgery they chose. I feel as if I have no choice b/c the only (current) social channel is them; those that are robotic, bitter, cynical, and self-loathing by week, and so animated and happy by weekend. I feel like I’m going back to this lifestyle of my early 20’s… not good. Falling back into the same lifestyle.

My sister is talking to me as I type this.. and she says that it’s actually me who’s the robotic one during the week and lively on the weekends. She says “look in, maybe it’s you.” God dammit. She’s right. It’s not these people, it’s me. The f*cking “self” causing my brain to fire all these unhealthy thoughts. I guess I haven’t mastered the art of conscience. The mind is still stronger than the conscience. ;/

Maybe it’s because I haven’t hit my financial goals yet and I feel some kind of self-induced restriction that prevents me from enjoying myself fully and attaining this thoughtless consciouness. I feel this incredible sense of “anti-climactic” end to the weekends.

The most incredible thing I’ve heard from my sister was … “you are seeking this wise man.. but you’ll find out that this wise man is inside you.” Yes, the most thought provoking thing my sister has said in ages. I actually contemplated on that statement for days.. and I still think about it. For one, how was it possible that such wise words came out of her mouth and two, how deep is that statement?

In the book Power of Now, the author writes about how those seeking light (i.e. the “enlightened one”) actually have light themselves. That’s how they can tell that they’re seeing light. Light can only be recognized by light, never by darkness. So this book implies that I have light.. and I’ve been searching it even though it was in me all along. I guess i should’ve know that when spiritual leaders kept saying that the happiness is within; that it is a choice and a lifestyle, not some destination.

I feel a sense of dissatisfaction and is making me very jumpy. Even just now (after the previous paragraph), my mom came in just to chit chat and I turned it into a full blown argument for no reason. good lord. My mind is one dangerous weapon.. firing for no apparent reason and at supposed enemies that are my loved ones. Sometimes I wish I can drill my brain and remove the lizard brain.

If you are reading this (which is 1 in 10 billion chance), mom, I am sorry. I say that I am sorry so many times but this time, i am truly truly sorry.

God, if you are reading this, I need some help. Send me some help please. Please.

Today, on broadway + 32nd in New York City, there was a bazaar sponsored by the St. Francis of Assissi, specifically the Korean parish. They were doing a fundraiser for North Korean refugees and the homeless people around the tri-state area.

Everything was great. The weather was great, the sales were great, people were having fun, and it seemed like everything was going the way it was planned.

Then the Jamaican reggae music DJs showed up out of nowhere, setting up shop at the entrance of the festival.

First of all, I wasn’t involved with the even planning of this bazaar so I am not sure if I am jumping the gun, but it seemed like these guys just set up shop in front of this Korean bazaar (i.e. taking advantage of the foot traffic) w/o any sort of prior business arrangement. To close down a NYC block for any sort of commercial activity, you need MONTHS AND MONTHS of planning and collaboration with the gov’t of NYC. Maybe I could be wrong… maybe the NYC gov’t decided to do a good will and hire the Jamaican DJs for this KOREAN event.

Second thing I noticed was that these guys were COMPETING for the crowd’s attention. The louder the festival got, the louder the Jamaicans got.

After a while, these Jamaican guys started SCREAMING. Good lord.

Now here’s my take on this…

Who the f*ck invited these guys? It’s just plain rude. Korean Catholics (not korean american catholics) - a big chunk of them speak hardly any English. Even if they did, I guarantee they never even HEARD of this reggae genre, let alone invite them to a Korean food/cultural event.

I’m no business guru, but these guys need a lesson in RELEVANCE. They set up shop in front of this Korean cultural festivity to promote their crap. Uh.. hello? Wrong demographics. You are NOT relevant for this crowd. The type of people that seek Korean food do NOT overlap with the crowd that seek reggae music. If these “entrepreneurs” thought this was an opportunity, … umm.. waste of time!

If you are an entrepreneur, next time, do some research on your target demographics.
